For Mother, the Goddess of Love

After speaking with Hedy and Anteros, Himeros decided to follow his brother's advice and seek out his mother. Perhaps she would be in her temple. He was wary of looking for Ares and asking him where she was.

Himeros entered his mother's temple, breathing in the scent of perfumed incense and flowers. Smiling to himself, he decided that some thing just never changed.

He walked around, hand fondly running over the surfaces of the statues and altars, the pillars and tables heaped with offerings.

He stopped in the center of the temple, voice sweet and loving as he called for the one person he missed more than his brothers or Pothos. "Mum? Mum? Can I speak to you please?"

Mum, otherwise known as Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love.

Of course you can...

She stepped into the room from one of the side doors that let to the pool and garden area, dressed traditionally in a chiton the color of the ocean. WIth one raied brow, she held her hand out towards her child, before rotating her finger slowly turn... I want to see you.

Himeros did exactly that, head tilted to the side and a pretty smile gracing full lips. "Mum... You are as beautiful as I remember. Maybe even more."

It's my job, sweetheart. I'm paid to be the most beautiful women in existance... without the getting paid, part. You're just like your brothers... wings are always a mess. Let's go out into the gardens, and we can talk?

He smiled. "Of course, Mother. You are beauty itself, completly ignoring that whole mess with Psyche."

Himeros tried to look affronted at her wing comment but it only came off as amused. "Mum, I am not a child. And my wings are not a mess."

He unfolded them from where they were hidden, surreptitiously glancing at them. "They look fine," he muttered to himself, following his mother to the gardens.

Mhm...

She nodded lightly as she took his hand, leading them to a bench among her roses. Sitting him down, she sat beside him, her fingers reaching behind him to preen at his wings.

Of course you're not a child. But you are my child. So what's on your mind, darling?

He couldn't help the purr of contentment when she began to stroke his wings. It had been a long time since someone last touched his wings.

"Mum, I have just spoken with Anteros and Hedylogos. I have missed my brothers - Eros I have not yet seen. We talked about certain things and the most..disturbing news I have heard."

He turned to look her in the eye. "Is is true, Mum? War has found Olympus?"

You'll find Cupid, if he wishes to be found. He's often around somewhere. Last I heard he'd taken an interest in your sister's love life, poor thing.

she smiled, brushing a ksis against his cheek, absently fluffing feathers

Ares has always been on Olympus, darling.

He playfully wrinkled his nose. "Poor darling. Eros should learn to stop meddling with his sibbling - we meddle right back."

Tilting his head and frowning at her. "Mum, you know that is not what I meant. What is this about Ares usurping Zeus' throne?"

[info]dite_dot_com

August 6 2005, 03:57:49 UTC 6 years ago

Ahh, but Harmonia doesn't meddle the same way you boys do. Ares usurped nothing... he made a vow to Athene on the water of Styx to not harm Zeus. Events occured which Ares had no apart of...But the Throne was left open, and Ares took the responsibility that was his, to hold Olympus together. Any current issues stem from the direction of Hades. Had Ares even once Harmed Zeus, in any form, he'd have suffered the consequenses of his vow.

He sighed. "But Mother, I was under the impression that Zeus was turned into a snake and spirited away to the depths of the Underworld by Hades. And now Ares has the throne? And Hades...wants it?" Frowning. "I'm terribly confused..."

[info]dite_dot_com

August 6 2005, 04:12:31 UTC 6 years ago

Oh, he was turned into a snake, but that was by your sister and her beau. I don't know what Ares did with the snake, or how Hades got ahold of it..But I doubt the occurance could be replicated to reverse it right away. I'm not saying Ares didn't want the throne... but the point is it was open, and he's the heir. Hades wants what he always wants, which is dominion over the living, not the dead... so he choses to attack Ares, mostly in lies and character.

"Mum, what do we do if Hades chooses to attack Olympus or if Zeus is, somehow, freed? Would there not be dire repurcussions?" He worried his lip.

"Another thing, Anteros and I were wondering... What is our part in this? Does Ares require anything of us?" He would not know what to do if the new King of the gods did.

If Hades attacks Olympus we do what we do if anyone were to attack our home...we defend ourselves. For all Hades talk about Ares being off kilter, and yes he's the one attacking the mortal plane and attacking. If Zeus is freed? well then he and Ares will continue the dance they've danced since Zeus realized Ares was needed - That will be between them, and no need to pick sides until we see how they choose to handle it.

As for you? Ares, I think, wants those loyal to Olympus to stand against Hades, to protect their homes. Not as warriors, those that aren't... But to support.

Himeros sighed and laid his head in his mother's lap. He was glad to have spoken with her. She made everything simple - everything made sense with her.

"I am loyal to Olympus, Mother, and to our family. I will do what is needed. And I know Anteros will do the same, even if he is wary about being involved in something of this magnitude. All I want is peace and some happy place to live in delight in - I had that but without my loved ones, so I returned."

Looking up at her. "How have you been? Are you and Ares still..." He trailed off, not exactly sure how to finish that question and just hoping she would understand.

And all I want of you is peace and happiness.

She stroked his hair with one hand, fingers still stroking feathers through with her other hand.

It's all I'll ask of you, baby, in this... support.

smiling softly, she bent, placing a kiss upon his cheek

Ares is now, and shall always be the other half of my soul. Who knows... give him a few more millenia, he might make an honest goddess of me.

Feeling a sleepy contentment he had missed terribly - only his mother could make him feel this way, like a child safe and protected - he sighed happily.

"You will always have my support, mum. Always. Just like my siblings and Pothos will have it. And as for Ares, I cannot believe he will ever make an honest woman out of you - is he capable of fidelity? I am sure that you are since you are the goddess of love - but as long as you are happy, as am I."

August 6 2005, 05:31:38 UTC 6 years ago

she laughed softly

Oh, I'm sure he's capable of it as I am, though I doubt either of us will ever practice monagamy. But then I see no real reason for that, no matter how honest we ever are. Or relationship works for us as is.

[info]winged_ardour

August 6 2005, 05:37:05 UTC 6 years ago

He grinned slyly. "Of course, gods do not practice monogamy. We are not so very good at it. But as said, you are happy so I am happy."

Sighing dramatically. "If only I could find love... Anteros is happy. Eros has always had Psyche. You have Ares. Harmonia has her beau - who is it by the way? But I... I am alone."

[info]dite_dot_com

August 6 2005, 05:49:57 UTC 6 years ago

You are love... can't take far to find it. You need to be happy first, for happiness to find you... much as we most often grant love to those already lvoing themselves.. It's wasted on those who look to us for validation.

She leaned back against the bench, quite comfortable with the grown man that was her son laying in her lap, fingers sliding through his hair, rubbing at his neck.

Anteros is rarely happy, as he wants everything. He has time to learn. I have Ares, but never think our relationship is an easy one. Harmonia - Nothing is easy about her current beau. I think she's guilty about Kadmos, as well as in terrible straits with Ares over her choice... He's forbidden her to be with Strife.

[info]winged_ardour

August 6 2005, 06:14:00 UTC 6 years ago

"I sometimes envy mortals, Mum," he admitted. "They have it so easy - they love so well, so quickly, so earnestly. Things are so much more complicated with us. I find myself wondering what life would be like, what love would be like if I were mortal. Would things be easier for me?"

His eyes drifted close, seeing perfectly his siblings in his mind's eye. "Anteros seems happy now. He and Antigone still fightbut as you said, they have time and he does truly love her. And I know Ares and you have a complicated relationship - it is Ares! - but you love him. And Harmonia?" Thinking of his sister. "She will find a way. She is, after all, our sister."

[info]dite_dot_com

August 6 2005, 06:20:46 UTC 6 years ago

She will get what she wants, I imagine... She's the only person I know who can truly get anything out of Ares. I imagine finding time to kiss Strife will be the least of her problems, should Zeus return. I don't imagine he'll be amused by her sense of justice.

And you, baby... don't even think of what would be different were you mortal... It's much the same as wondering how life were differ if you were a tree. You will find what you need, once you know what it really is.

August 6 2005, 06:27:04 UTC 6 years ago

He chuckled, thinking of his lovely sister and her lovely ways to get what she wanted. "That is my Harmonia. I should go and see her, Eros as well. Perhaps one of these days, if they are not occupied. I miss them. And as for Zeus returning, perhaps he wil lrealize that we do what we must for love and loyalty. He cannot fault that."

Nodding absently. "What do I need? I shall have to think more on that. I know what I want though - to feel what it is you feel when you look upon Ares, when Anteros looks upon Antigone, when Eros looks upon Psyche... That. That is what I want."

I wouldn't wish my relationship with Ares on my most ardent enemy.

You are fully and completely loved, baby. And you love fully and completely. Your time will come...But do not rush it. Things come when you do not look.
